Catching Up on Winter Basement Project

This winter I'm working on finishing a basement.  Here are some updates on the project.

We removed two posts and consolidated to one post to give more flexibility to furniture placement.  This required putting in a new steel beam.  Above: It gets a bit dusty cutting the concrete so that I could reinforce the area where the new post would go.

After a bit a clean up.

Rebar reinforcements.

New concrete.

Supported the house/beam with framing before removing posts.  Brought in two 400+ lb beams on scaffolding and moved into place.

Beam is up!

Supporting wall that was built to support beam/house during the process has been removed.

The basement already had one bathroom and one bedroom.  The bath will remain, but the bedroom is getting modified because it will have a walk in closet that it will share with another bedroom that is getting added.  Above you can see the remains of the original bedroom after extensive demo.

Added framing to the walls and plastic to seal out moisture.

Add framing to the ceiling.

Before the stairway was enclosed (see above three photos). I removed this wall to open it up. I also added a platform.

Partially demoed.

Stairs are now open and platform added.

Two bedrooms and walk in closet are framed.

Can lights are added.  What a difference a bit of light makes!  Stay tuned for more updates!
