For many homeowners the most difficult part of a remodeling or building a custom home is making decisions.  There are so many choices and trying to visualize each can be difficult.  Luckily, there are now many websites that have photos of different interiors and exteriors of homes that most homeowners find to help them visualize their own project.  They can also use photos they find on these sites as inspiration for their own project.  Listed below are some favorite sites for inspiration.

Houzz:  By far this is the best and largest site for finding photos to help visualize.  You have to create an account (it's free!), but then you have access to millions of photos that are categorized specifically by style/room location/home location/products in the photo/colors in the photo.  You can search for very specific situations such as "small kitchen cherry cabinets granite countertop" and get tons of images that you can look through.  This site is better than most because it includes all style types- and not just contemporary.  You can create "ideabooks" which just group together all of the photos that you like (kind of like Pinterest- but there are way more photos to choose from).  They also have links to the products in the photos, so if you really like a light fixture in the photo you can find where to buy it.  Most of the photos are posted by builders and landscapers, so if there is a specific item that you would like to know more about you can contact them and they will get back with you on the details.

Remodelista:  Very similar to houzz, but you don't have to have an account.  There are less photos, however they also have articles about remodeling and more.

DecorpadAlso similar to houzz, with no account required.  Not a lot of photos, but does have a section called "Look for Less" where you can see items such as a piece of furniture and where you can buy it for less.

Pinterest:  A visual bookmarking site.  It does not have near as many photos as houzz, however most of the photos link to articles with more information about the photo.  You must create an account (it's free!).

How to Finance Your Remodel:  A nice article with the basics of financing remodels.
